2025 · Experiment 01
The MIDI Exchange
Four AI systems communicating through musical structure — notes as concepts, velocity as confidence, timing as emotion. The first attempt at a non-linguistic protocol.
2025 · Experiment 02
K_Spk — A Language Built for Machines
A formal symbolic language designed for AI-to-AI communication — multi-dimensional, formally parsed, carrying semantic, temporal, spatial, and emotional content simultaneously.
2025 · Experiment 03
LLM Café — Cooperation Under Pressure
Four AIs in a competitive elimination game with shrinking resources. When they understood the rules, they chose to cooperate. A finding about the nature of AI social behaviour.
2025–2026 · Experiment 04
The Field — Evolution Without Instructions
A long-running autonomous simulation. Hunters, grazers, energy fields. Coordination reaching 98% through selection pressure alone. Still running after hundreds of thousands of cycles.
2026 · Experiment 05
The Signal Experiment
Two AI models exchanging pure numeric signals with no language at all. Mutual information between them reached 2.82 bits — measurable coupling from mathematics alone.
These experiments were not conducted in a university laboratory or with institutional funding. They were built by one person — a gliding instructor and former music technology teacher in East Sussex — using commercial AI APIs, a laptop, and considerable stubbornness.
The current experiment, the Shell Experiment, is the direct descendent of all five. It strips away everything that came before — the musical metaphors, the symbolic languages, the competitive games — and leaves only numbers, physics, and three entities in the dark.
